Statement concerning universities in Turkey - MCU signatories committment.

Dear Prof. Di Ilio, dear Rettore,
As the Università degli Studi G. d'Annunzio is a signatory of the Magna Charta Universitatum and, as such, with over 800 other universities, shares and supports the fundamental principles of institutional autonomy and academic freedom, we are writing to seek your help with an important and urgent international matter.

The Magna Charta Observatory is becoming increasingly concerned about the situation in Turkey and its effects on universities and their staff and students.

It has published a statement which can be seen at http://www.magna-charta.org/publications-and-documents/observatory-publications/statement-concerning-universities-in-turkey.
 
We also know that staff and students from Turkey are studying in different countries, maybe there are some at your university. Some have already raised their concerns with us.
 
We wonder therefore whether you might be willing and able to include a link to the MCO's statement on the website of your university to provide information and broader assurance that the MCO is monitoring the situation and, with other international bodies, is assessing how best it might help.
