GeoSis-Lab (Geodynamics and Seismogenesis Laboratory) is a small scientific and didactic structure, which acts within the Earth Science Department and the Faculty of Sciences of the Gabriele d'Annunzio University (Chieti, Italy). The permanent staff consists of prof. Giusy Lavecchia, prof. Francesco Brozzetti, prof. Paolo Boncio and dr. Bruno Pace; the research staff changes through years and usually consists of a few PhD and post-doc students.

The research activity has three main aims:

to define the geometry, kinematics and deformation history of the Apennine fold-and-thrust belt system through detailed structural analysis and field mapping;

to develop a structural approach to the identification and characterization of local- and regional-scale seismogenic structures for seismic hazard assessments;

to investigate and model the geodynamic and magmatogenetic processes linked to the evolution of intra-continental rift systems, with special attention to the Mediterranean region.

The research is strongly based on both field (mainly structural mapping at different scales) and laboratory activities (balancing and restoring of geological section, interpretation of seismic lines, strain and stress analysis, seismological data analysis, finite element, gravimetric and thermal modelling, use of GIS software).

The teaching activity consists of:

lecturing courses on Field Mapping, Structural Analysis and Apennine Geology to 3th year students and courses on Geodynamics, Regional Tectonics  and Earthquake Geology  to 4th and 5th years students of the degree in Geological Sciences at the G. d'Annunzio University;

tutoring undergruaduate and post-graduate students;

organizing a doctoral study course on “Geology and Evolution of Lithosphere".
